Moan – Linfield
This was always going to be a very hard game for us. We had nothing to lose so we started the game brightly and our counter attacks and football was excellent at times. We got the opening goal from a corner that went straight in from Conor Mac, not too many people can say they have scored directly from a corner. We had a lot of possession in the game. They then got their equaliser through a header which could have been dealt with. We then went 2-1 down when Jonny Parr made a great save and we thought Seanna Foster made a great block, but the referee awarded a penalty as he thought he blocked the ball with his arm. We went 2-1 down but again we never panicked, and we continued to play football and press Linfield. We made it 2-2 before the break when Darren Murray’s shot deflected and sailed over the keeper’s head. In the second half the lads came out and put in another great shift and we had a few chances, but failed to convert them. On the 85th minute we switched off and they got another goal to put them 3-2 up. Once again, the lads didn’t drop the heads and give up. We pushed for the equaliser and got rewarded when Anto Reilly was fouled in the box and up stepped Marty Murray who Cooley slotted Home the penalty to get us a well-deserved point. We had a huddle in the changing rooms before the game and we wanted to dedicate our performance to the late Raymond Woods who was a founder of the club and a man that would never have missed a match at home. A great man and a great performance from the whole squad to remember him by.
This will be another exciting but hard game for us. But one in which everyone at the club is looking forward to. We can take confidence from our performances in recent weeks. I Believe that if we show the same commitment and the same attitude as we did on Saturday, there is no reason why we can not take points of the league leaders at home. Two good footballing sides so it should be an entertaining game of football on Friday night.
