The first half was very open with both teams playing attacking football. We started the game of brightly and took the game to them. Marty Murray hit a good long-range strike that went narrowly wide in the early stages. Lorcan Forde was running at the Linfield defence and was causing all sorts of problems. We went 1-0 up after good work from Lorcan who squared the ball to Davidson. They got back into the game with a header from a corner. They then had a few chances to take the lead, but Jonny Parr pulled off some brilliant saves. We came out at half time slow and Linfield had a few more chances which they did not convert. We were very unfortunate when Lorcan Forde went through on goal and rattled the post. They got their second and third goal from another two set pieces. All three of their goals was headers from set pieces. We have conceded too many goals from set pieces this season, we need to be more alert and tighten up on the marking for these. I believe that there is some positives to take from the game, as we had some excellent passages of play and defended well from play.
We must forget about this game and focus on the next one. We have a lot of tough fixtures this month, so it is important that we train hard and recover properly. This Saturday we face Barry Gray’s Cliftonville. We gave a good account of ourselves when we recently played Cliftonville in the Irish cup. We should go into this game with the same attitude. We can take confidence from recent weeks as we have got a few good results and we have been playing good football. We are also playing at the Q Radio Arena for this game which is a major boost. We need all the support we can get to help cheer us on.
