Under 14s progress to last 16 of NIBFA cup Nov 18, 2018

Warrenpoint Town under 14s progress to the last 16 of the NIBFA cup after beating Bangor 2-0.

The point lads started the brighter of the two sides and within the first 5 minutes a cross from Harvey Simpson from the right hand side found Emel Melville and he played a delightful through ball to Stephen Reid who hit a low shot that was brilliantly saved by the Bangor keeper. The Point lads had most of the play in the first half and created a few good chances, the best falling to Ethan Sousa but his shot skimmed the crossbar. Bangor looked dangerous on the counter attack but a good solid defensive display form centre pairing Aaron Downey and Ivan Savshak , alongside full backs Keelan Gibsonand Ryan Duffy insured that goal keeper Oisin Mc Stay wasn’t troubled.

The second half started with both teams playing some neat football but it was Warrenpoint town that took the lead when a nice passage of play between Emmanuelle Ojo and Matty Hampton found Stephen Reid on the edge of the box, and he hit a right footed shot that beat the Bangor keeper and flew into the right hand corner of the net. Bangor had their best spell of the game when they created a few chances of their own, and were unlucky not to equalise following a cross from the left that was met by their centre forward but his shot crashed of the crossbar and harmlessly out for a goal kick. The point continued to press and a corner kick delivered beautifully by the impressive Harvey Simpson was spectacularly volleyed against the crossbar by Stephen Reid. Callan Morgan was introduced to add pace to the attack and with only minutes remaining Reid did eventually get his second goal of the game when he hit a shot from the edge of the area that hit the net and put the game out of reach of the Bangor boys. Final score 2-0 to Warrenpoint. This was a great team effort from the Point lads and they thoroughly deserved the win. Man of the Match was Harvey Simpson who showed great energy and desire throughout the game.
