Warrenpoint Town under 14s produced a stunning performance last Saturday (6th April) morning at Milltown against Foyle Harps.
The lads showed their intent right from the start when Harvey Simpson tested the Harps keeper within the first 5 minutes. The opening goal came when a through pass from Llywd Jones found Stephen Reid, and his 20 yard shot sailed over the head of the keeper to make it one nil to the Point. It was soon followed by a fantastic team goal, great build up play starting on left hand side involving Keelan Gibson, Emel Melville and Aaron Downey resulted in Emanuel Ojo finding Harvey Simpson and the nippy winger beat his marker got to the by line, and swung in a beautiful cross that was met superbly by Ethan Sousa who volleyed home from 18 yards to make it two nil. Foyle Harps got themselves back into the game just before the half time whistle when they scored a good goal to make it 2-1 at the break.
The second half was a pretty even affair with both teams creating opportunities, but a solid defensive performance from the back four marselled by Aaron Downey , Conor Mc Cluskey, Emel Melville and Emanuel Ojo along with the reliable Oisin mc Stay in nets . Llwyd Jones was excellent in midfield winning tackles and encouraging his teammates forward before his game was cut short following a terrible injury resulting in a fractured foot. Matty Hampton and Ryan Clarke gave everything against a very physical Harps team. The 3rd goal deservedly came following a dazzling run from the very impressive Ethan Sousa who beat two defenders before squaring it for Steven Reid to get his second of the game and seal the win. Callum Morgan was introduced and the little wizard set up Matty Hampton on the edge of the box but his shot sailed just over the crossbar. This was a brilliant team performance from the lads today who played with great spirt and determination throughout the game . We would like to take this opportunity to wish our 3 injured players a speedy recovery and hopefully we’ll see Llywd Jones,Ryan Duffy and Ivan back playing soon.
MOTM – Ethan Sousa a magnificent performance from the captain who scored a fantastic volley
